As a rule of a thumb, I love keeping company with people who are overweight. In fact some of the nicest people that I have met are on the heavy side.
Maybe I am just stereotyping, but most of them are funny, fun to be with, have a great sense of humor, and are easy-going. This has been my valuable experience with most of them but recent events have somewhat altered my perception. My mistake of course; after all people are people--whatever size they come in, if they are nasty, they are nasty.
I recently switched jobs and girls..., the new workplace somehow has quite a bit of people who are huge. I should add, huge & bitchy--especially if they havent made it in the organization. A, my friend, once told me that people who are fat (that's it; I finally said it!) come from 2 extremes --they are either very very nice or very very bitchy. They dont come in between. Perhaps there are some merits to his claims.
This brought me to ponder about other big size people, of whom I have the misfortune of making their acquaintances these past few years. One thing for sure--they suffer from a serious inferiority complex which perhaps stems out from their big size. Being bitchy works as a defence mechanism for some of them.
Some years ago, I was organizing an event for my company and we decided to invite a rotund singer to the event. We picked her because a friend happened to know her and she charged rather reasonably. I remembered reading about her , lamenting her fate that although she was crowned as 'Voices of 90s', it was difficult for her to get offers because of her rather huge frame (she has since doubled her size since my first and only encounter with her--of which I am very pleased to note). Yeap, difficult is the operative word--she is difficult alright.
All night long, she acted like a primadonna who ordered all of us around to make her Royal Fatness feel comfortable. Her food must be served on time and needed to be garnished in a certain way. We had rented a huge bungalow for that night event and girl, she was running the host ragged with her demands. Now, we know the truth--the story behind her offers that were few and far between, and the story about her broken relationship which she alleged was due to her obesity.
The truth is, there are a lot of singers who are heavy set and still receive offers to perform. I have never known Sahara Yaakob to be slender but the woman managed to sell herself like hot cakes. Kak Pah is another fine example.
Miss Tubbo can be seen in a lot of advertisments nowadays playing all sorts of comic characters--but let me tell you, funny she aint.
