You are going to...

A "friend" told me two days ago, "You are going to love so-and-so when you meet him...".

I tell you... nothing is more exasperating when someone assumes he or she knows what your likes and dislikes are. When they feel that just because you have been friends with them for a couple of years, they know everything there is to know about you. My boy friend and I have been together for 6 years and I still surprise him from time to time with my decisions, & my reactions to certain issues.

The truth is, the more we think we know about the other person, the more there is to discover about him or her. Why do you think people get divorce after they get married? Because figuratively, we dont know him or her anymore after so many years of being together.

The thing is, everytime when such assumptions are made about me, I have to act exactly how I have been portrayed to make the speaker feel he is right. So, stop telling me that I am gonna like Prof X because I dont want to act so when I finally meet Prof X. Stop telling me that I am gonna like that person's house because the decor is nice--because chances are I wont. That just because I bought one piece of chandelier, I am gonna be mesmerized by all the chandeliers there are in Miss Muffet's house.

Most important...stop assuming anything about me because it is so not cute.
