93.9 FM

There is a new radio station, owned by BERNAMA, that promises to bring the latest news around the clock. Well, what better way to keep on top of one's breasts what's happening in the country--those long torturous traffic jams will finally be of use. So, I tuned in to the station yesterday afternoon while waiting for my itty bitty car to move an inch in the long traffic--hoping to get home in time for the breaking of fast. Oh well, I am being overly optimistic.

I think maybe in the early 90's, it was acceptable to have some amateurs fumbling & sounding gooney over her scripts on national radio but these days, this is no longer unacceptable. Wake up and smell your shoes-lah. How long must we use the excuse--we are new therefore dont expect perfection. The fact is, people nowadays should be better educated with easy access of information, trainings, networking...you name it babe. There are CNN correspondents, Oprah, Wan Chik Daud--all of whom are examplary if they need role models to emulate--unless of course, the BERNAMA newsreaders have never watched any news in their whole life. In that case, I wonder why they were hired in the first place.

Then there is an issue of infrastructure. Often, the newsreaders would need to conduct interviews by phone. Not only they fail to connect to the people they are supposed to interview mostly, but the times they they do the static interference is just exasperating. To top it off the questions they asked are not prepared in advance, making both the newsreaders and the questions sound....stupid & unoriginal.

And what's the deal with that abbreviated & loud music (noise) at the end of each news? Is that supposed to make us feel the rush?
